Kontact is the original client for Kolab, the software which is used by Kolab Now. It is fully Free Software and supports end-to-end encryption with GnuPG out of the box. It is available for GNU/Linux and Windows. Kolab Systems sponsors the Windows installer and maintains the Windows version.

If you want to set up Kontact with your Kolab Now account, please follow the instructions below.

There is extensive documentation available for Kontact, its Calendar and its Email program.

Set up a Kolab Account

In order to add a new account to your Kontact, please open the Account Assistant and select Kolab Groupware Server as the account type. Fill out the Personal Settings while making sure that the Server Address is set to imap.kolabnow.com and the Kolab Version to v3.

IMAP Configuration

If you followed the above instructions using the Account Assistant, your IMAP account should already have been set up properly. However, you can verify your settings based on the screenshots below. In order to do so, please go to Settings in the menu bar and choose Configure Kontact. Then go to Mail and Accounts.

Please make sure that the IMAP Server is imap.kolabnow.com and that it uses port 993 with SSL encryption. Please also use your full and primary Kolab Now address such as test@kolabnow.com as a user name.

SMTP Configuration

Unfortunately, the SMTP settings need to be corrected after account setup. In order to do so, please go to Settings in the menu bar and choose Configure Kontact. Then go to Mail, Accounts and then click on the Sending tab. The server should be smtp.kolabnow.com with port 587 and TLS encryption. Please use your full and primary Kolab Now address such as test@kolabnow.com as a user name and also see the screenshots below.
